Skeuomorphic and Flat design trends

Apple shifted focus from a skeuomorphic design to unveil a flat and de-textured iOS. Skeuomorphism and flat design are two very different ways of representing the interactions and functions of a computer, mobile, tablet or website. In contrast to skeuomorphism, flat design seeks to get rid of any part of a design that isn’t strictly functional and entirely necessary.

Basically, all designers claim to hate skeuomorphism now. However, there’s a new form of skeuomorphism emerging. This version is correlated with flat design. It emulates real life, but this new form of skeuomorphism emulates movement and mass instead of texture and lighting. It’s skeuomorphic motion, and it specifically refers to skeuomorphism in animation and transitions. Movement improves usability by adding context and showing cause and effect.
